Accountability

We owe it to the families of Rocklin.

Rocklin families lead busy lives. Between school, work, sports, extracurriculars, and personal lives, families need to know that their elected officials are invested in making the inner workings of our educational ecosystem transparent, accessible, and free from ulterior motives. School Board Trustees are tasked with making decisions that impact thousands of families, often in ways they may not be immediately aware of or that may not become apparent until after those decisions are made. It’s critical that when a School Board makes those decisions, Trustees are able to speak openly and in good faith about the reasoning that drives their actions. Trustees have a duty to serve the best interests of students, teachers, and parents–not political, cultural, or personal agendas. Emails should be answered, experts should be consulted, and the community should be engaged at every step. Accountability means owning both the positive and negative outcomes of decisions made and taking the steps necessary to make things right by the Rocklin community.

Financial Stewardship

Prioritizing educational excellence.

School Board Trustees are entrusted with multimillion-dollar budgets of taxpayer funding, and they have a fiduciary duty to administer those budgets in the best interests of our district. They are the champions for every student, for countless hard-working district employees who are experts in their fields, for parents who understand their students better than anyone, and for every single taxpayer whose hard-earned money they manage. Trustees are ultimately responsible for every single taxpayer dollar approved and spent on all aspects of our public education. Ensuring that our budgets are being appropriately wielded, efficiently utilized, and strategically invested in the pursuit of educational excellence is at the core of School Board Trustee responsibilities. Empirical data should guide all decisions, subject matter experts should be consulted, and public forums should be held as often as possible.

Community & Family Involvement

Cultivating a supportive environment.

Our public school system provides endless opportunities for family and community involvement. Rocklin teachers and staff work tirelessly to provide educational excellence, but there is always room to get involved or leave your mark on generational learning. The School Board is in a position to promote community involvement opportunities such as classroom volunteering, parent-teacher clubs, fundraising, sports leadership, music, the arts, student club sponsorship, equity studies, curriculum reviews, board meeting attendance, and more. Involvement from a diverse community–reflective of different backgrounds, skills, professions, perspectives, beliefs, and traditions–strengthens our district and helps provide our students with the knowledge and passion to carve new paths through the world. Supporting an environment of community, collaboration, and respect for our neighbors sets the tone for the youth of Rocklin–it fosters lifelong learning and helps our students thrive in every aspect of their lives.
